The Family Connection of St. Joseph County, Inc.,
is a small not-for-profit organization located in South Bend, Indiana. The
Family Connection's mission is to foster the growth and development of community
systems that are responsive to and in the best interests of children and
families.
Our purpose is threefold:
1) to collect, process and disseminate information that enhances the
quality of services offered to children and families;
2) to facilitate increased understanding and communication between families
and the organizations that serve them; and
3) to strengthen family participation in and impact on the public and
nonprofit institutions, collaboratives, and agencies in our community.
The Family Connection has worked with numerous community groups and institutions
(including social service providers, parents, schools, businesses, community
coalitions and others) to gather and disseminate information that contributes
to increased understanding of issues and needs, more effective programs
and policies, and systems change.
Specifically, The Family Connection:
 Researches social trends, statistics, model programs, and best practices
for community and agency planning, grant applications, and policy analysis;
Conducts surveys, interviews, and focus groups for system or program planning, development and evaluation;
Organizes and summarizes information gathered in group settings
for feedback and action;
Compiles needs assessments to determine the effectiveness and
availability of services for families, identify community strengths and
challenges, and provide documentation for planning and funding requests;
Produces newsletters, briefing papers, and other publications
to educate parents, providers, policy makers or the public about family
and children's issues and resources;
Writes grants for organizations, agencies and collaboratives
to help them secure the funding they need to support programs for families
and children; and
Provides technical assistance on consumer/parent involvement
issues and information gathering and dissemination.
